HISTORY
Christopher
Columbus discovered the cigar in 1492, the same year he discovered
America.
Puros Irene is proud to be a part of history. Created in one of
the oldest cigar factories in Mexico in the city of Veracruz,
the first port of the Americas and gateway to the New World, our
cigars are steeped in tradition.
Our
story begins on Good Friday April 22nd, 1519 the day Hernan Cortes
landed on the sunny shores of Mexico which he named Vera Cruz,
the True Cross. From this point on Veracruz would play an important
roll as port to the New Continent supplying the Old World with
treasures from the New including the cigar, which was considered
sacred in the Americas and magical by the Europeans.
Today
our cigars are no longer considered sacred however they are cherished
the world over by cigar connoisseurs. Following centuries of tradition,
Puros Irene continues to create an outstanding cigar, fit for
a king, or a Mayan Priest. With over fifty years in the market
we are proud to carry on this century-old art of cigar-making.
Each Puros Irene begins its journey in the lush rolling hills
of the San Andrés Tuxtla Valley, Veracruz, one of the world’s
richest tobacco growing regions. The dark, volcanic soil and warm
tropical sun produce a world-renowned tobacco, which is hand-selected
for each cigar. Through an age-old process of blending and treating
these prized tobaccos, we create a distinctive cigar, which is
comparable to no other. Handcrafted by only the most skilled artisans,
Puros Irene carries on the long tradition of exceptional taste
and superior construction.
A
treasure to the senses, our cigars continue to be enjoyed the
world over. Enjoy a taste of history with Puros Irene, created
for decades in the historic port of Veracruz. |
